The impact of DiSC for teams

We love DiSC! Since adopting it in 2019, it’s popularity as the preferred Workplace Communication Assessment tool has skyrocketed. As a tool DiSC has an ability to foster self-awareness, enhance communication skills, and cultivate effective interpersonal relationships.

For individual’s using DiSC, the report and workshop provide a comprehensive understanding of one’s behavioral tendencies and preferences. It empowers individuals to recognize their unique strengths and areas for growth, ultimately contributing to personal and professional development. It sounds all too good to be true – trust us, you’ll love it.

What I’m super pumped about today is how teams using DiSC can achieve greater insights, cohesiveness and function. According to the Wiley Group, today’s team’s are more complex: ‘Employees work on more teams and with more people on a daily basis compared to just five years ago’.

Not only do people work on more teams, but they work on more types of teams, as well. 73% of respondents to a recent survey are part of at least two different types of teams, whether project-based, departmental, or matrix. Some types of teams are more fluid than others.

Despite the pressing need for highly effective and productive teams, many individuals are either unaware or unable to consistently practice the behaviors that will ensure team success. This is primarily because employees see teamwork as something that comes naturally to them and as learned only through personal experiences on teams. In other words, they don’t view teamwork as something they need to learn, especially when 99% of respondents consider themselves “good” and “effective” team members.

The reality of current team functionality is that often there is little trust, little commitment and no accountability. This comes down to a combination of culture, interpersonal skills and effective work method skills.

The consequences of this skill gap are costly for individuals, teams, and employers.

At Envisage we recognise the power of high performing teams.

We recognize that this doesn’t just happen. As your HR Consultants we are working to align and unify your team. One way our clients have done this is to engage us in a series of team building sessions.
